Writers of Friday the 13th Remake Reveal Unmade Sequel’s Opening Scene

Jason Voorhees taking down a zipline rider is an unusual twist. In the unmade sequel to the Friday the 13th remake, screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift had a gruesomely creative concept for the film’s opening sequence. Their script featured a brand-new character, Val, who meets a horrific demise when she encounters the hockey-masked maniac at the end of her zipline ride.

After Val zooms across the zipline, she spots Jason waiting for her at the ride’s conclusion. This never-before-seen death adds a whole new layer of meaning to the phrase “end of the line,” reminiscent of the Tron Master Control Program’s repeated phrase. According to Shannon and Swift’s script for the unmade sequel, Jason delivers a deadly strike akin to Bryce Harper at the plate.

On October 12, the Friday the 13th screenwriters conducted a poll on X, formerly Twitter, in which 81.6% of online users voted to see a kill scene from their unproduced sequel. On October 13, they shared the first two pages of the script and tagged Derek Mears, who played the Crystal Lake killer in the 2009 remake. In these pages, the brutality and graphic nature of Val’s zipline encounter could have made it one of the most memorable deaths in the Friday the 13th franchise. Shannon and Swift also revealed additional pages from the script, including a flashback sequence featuring a young Jason and his parents, Pamela and Elias.
