If you happen to be an iPhone 15 owner, you’re likely eager to update it to the latest iOS version. iOS 17.0.3 is making headlines as it reportedly addresses a common problem of iPhone 15 devices overheating. According to Apple, this update resolves “an issue that may cause iPhone to run warmer than expected” and includes two critical security updates. Testing conducted by ZDNet’s Jason Hiner revealed that this update significantly reduces the temperature of iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max when they are operating at their peak.
While some iPhone 15 review models did exhibit slightly elevated temperatures, Hiner employed a thermal camera to document that his iPhone 15 Pro Max review unit reached a high of 107.1 degrees Fahrenheit (equivalent to 41.2 degrees Celsius) during fast charging with a 35W charger. However, after applying the iOS 17.0.3 update, Hiner observed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max reached a maximum temperature of only 93.8 degrees Fahrenheit (34.3 degrees Celsius). Moreover, the update did not impact the phone’s performance, indicating that the initial overheating problem appears to have been successfully resolved.
It is generally advisable to keep your smartphone’s operating system up-to-date with the latest software updates. These updates usually address issues, enhance security, and optimize performance parameters rather than introducing major new features that could have unforeseen consequences. To ensure you receive these updates promptly, it’s recommended to have automatic updates enabled on your iPhone. You can check for updates manually by navigating to the “Settings” app, selecting “General,” and then choosing “Software update.” If an update is available, your iPhone will prompt you to download and install it. If you’re running an older iOS version, there will also be an option to upgrade to the latest one.
As for beta versions of operating systems, it’s advised to exercise caution and avoid installing them on your primary smartphone. Beta versions serve as testing grounds for new features and updates, and they may not offer the same level of stability or security as the stable releases. Automatic updates for iOS are typically enabled by default, but if you encounter delays, you can manually check for updates as mentioned earlier.
