Netflix has unveiled the runtime for Zack Snyder’s upcoming space opera, “Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire,” and it’s set to be his shortest film since 2011. Originally conceived as a failed Star Wars pitch, “Rebel Moon” is the first installment of a two-part saga starring Sofia Boutella as Kora, a enigmatic warrior rallying the inhabitants of a remote farming colony against a tyrannical galactic dictator.
The runtime for “Rebel Moon” has been confirmed at two hours and 13 minutes, marking it as Zack Snyder’s shortest film since “Sucker Punch” in 2011, which had a runtime of one hour and 50 minutes. Although “Rebel Moon” is relatively shorter in comparison to some of Snyder’s recent works, extended cuts are already in the pipeline for both movies.
Snyder has announced that alternate extended versions will be part of the release plans for both films. The exact release dates for these extended cuts are yet to be specified, but they are expected to follow shortly after the release of each standard version. The extended editions of “Rebel Moon” are anticipated to feature an additional 45 minutes to an hour of content, potentially making the runtime of “Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire” at least three hours.
The extended cuts will offer a more in-depth exploration of the film’s characters, allowing Snyder to delve into narrative “rabbit holes” that weren’t feasible in the standard versions. Moreover, there will be a significant difference in age ratings between the two versions. While the standard releases have a PG-13 rating, the director’s cuts for “Rebel Moon” have been confirmed to be rated R, permitting the inclusion of more mature content, including violence, language, and other mature themes.
